Bar metaphase (2008)
building proposal

Metaphase, a step in the cellular reproductive process of mitosis, is characterized by an alignment of like parts. During this phase, a cell’s chromosomes line up in order to divide equally as the cell splits into two. This metaphase condition is present in the project at multiple scales. The larger scale is represented by a large internal structure, which serves as internal structure, light source, and definition of the building's character. Not unlike chromosomes, the tubular branches are in the process of separating. The smaller scale occurs in the skin, where the louvered external skin splits and breaks at key interventions, namely the staircases, the individual bars, and the moments of chromosome tube breaches.
