Clothes make the man (2002)
35mm film photography

The shapes and textures of daily, unimportant things like the pieces of a man’s suit speak volumes. Clothes make the man they say; unimportant bits of cloth become part of a man’s persona. Shapes and textures can convey the very reason why such pieces of fabric exist. The choice of fabrics a man puts on himself is not dissimilar to the choice of materials a society uses to build cities. We have cement blocks to tell us where pedestrians have the right of way, asphalt to warn us to look out for automobiles, grass to suggest minimal traffic of any sort is expected. Understanding the essence of the bits and pieces that surround us is of primary importance if we are to design an architecture that becomes as one with the people who use it.
